Meow, what a day! Pep and Pup visited Meowfest this past weekend, and oh boy, we had fun.

Meowfest was a cat-lover’s dream – a day full of meet and greets (for both humans and cats), yummy food, awesome cat merch, and excellent presentations.

The single-day festival was hosted by Catit at the Rocky Mountaineer Station in Vancouver, BC, on Saturday, August 20th. Here’s what went down:

Meowfest 2022 Event Overview

We arrived at around 9:30 am and waited in a short lineup before getting in. We had never been to the event, so we didn’t quite know what to expect, but as soon as we walked in, we got super excited.

Meowfest had a ton of cool vendors to check out, and since it’s the morning and all, the first one we visited was The Coffee Bike! After getting our lattes, we headed inside to look around and found ourselves by the adoption centre. As cute as the cats were, we didn’t end up adopting them.

The event is a not-for-profit and donates all proceeds to organizations helping cats. Naturally, they partnered with the Langley Animal Protection Society to help find homes for fostered cats.

Next, we headed to the event stage for a fabulous presentation by Ryercat about cat hygiene. Their two super-awesome presenters talked about cat hygiene and how to clean your cat’s teeth to avoid any serious problems down the road.

After the presentation, we met the famous BenBen (@benbencatcat on IG). Although he’s sometimes referred to as “the saddest cat on the internet,” we LOVED BenBen and thought he was super cute.

Our Favourite Vendors

We were interested in checking out more vendors, so we walked around the festival (there were LOTS to check out). Here are our favourites from Meowfest 2022:

  • Meowbox is a monthly subscription box for cat lovers. They had a booth set up at the convention and had all kinds of crazy goodies for cats. Our favourite item was the Pinot Meow cat wine (non-alcoholic, of course).
  • Cats of Instagram is an Instagram page dedicated to all things cat. We had a fantastic time chatting with the founders, who shared their dreams of opening a cat sanctuary in BC. They also had some hilarious cat-themed t-shirts for sale.
  • Catfe is a cat cafe and adoption service in Vancouver. They had an awesome presence, with a giant fluffy cat printout that you can actually hug and a yummy ice cream stand that we couldn’t resist. After all, who could say no to ice cream?
  • Tinykittens is a cat rescue service. We had the pleasure of meeting their founder, Shelly Roche, and did a quick interview with her (stay tuned!)

After ice cream, we headed back to the performance stage for the cat costume contest. With this, 15 fierce competitors showed off their best cat attire and answered questions about their cats, outfits, and more. Congratulations to the winner!

Final Thoughts

Meowfest 2022 had a ton of other awesome activities, such as speed dating, cat portrait painting, meet-and-greets, workshops, and more. All in all, we had our hearts and minds filled with tons of awesome cat experiences; we got to see lots of cute kitties and learned a lot about cat health, rescues, care, and more.

The event was a resounding success, with the biggest turnout they have ever seen, as over 3,000 cat lovers gathered to show love for cats and local shelters! With funds raised for LAPS and several kittens adopted, we’re sure the convention greatly impacted all who attended!

Thanks-a-meowllion, Meowfest. We’re already looking forward to next year!
